This is 50's rock at it's earliest!! Chuck was one of rock and roll's founding fathers, he was at the start of it all.. a true rock and roll pioneer!! He was pretty much along side of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Hailey among a few others. This guy was rockin' a good 8 years before the Beatles even came around! In the early 1950's, he was influenced by T-Bone Walker and got his break in 1955 when he went to Chicago and met Muddy Waters. Muddy told him to contact Leonard Chess of Chess records and the rest is history.
This is the earliest pressing with black Chess labels. The cover is in VG+ condition. It has one ding that is mostly noticable from the back, 2" split on bottom and some surface rub. Otherwise just light wear, so it still looks really nice. The vinyl plays through very nicely with a little crackling. It also looks nice, still lustrous with only a few light scuffs, VG+(+)
.
Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:
Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (born October 18, 1926) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter, and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958), Chuck Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive, with lyrics focusing on teen life and consumerism and utilizing guitar solos and showmanship that would be a major influence on subsequent rock music.
